King Barong EP

Tilly Jam
TJ003 | 2018-06-01
Sit tight, people. Tilly Jam catalogue number three comes jam-packed with premieres. First and foremost it’s the first EP by another artist than TJ head honcho and curator Till von Sein. Introducing Frankfurt based producer Mohig – friend of all things deep and advocate of good vibes only. Then you’ll find the first ever remix on a Tilly Jam record, courtesy of never not working Black Loops. Plus there’s yet another remix to round things off, laid down by TvS himself.

Side A opens up with “Searching For Barong”, an eclectic ride bridging almost urbanly pitched vocal moods and tribal chants, conflated by a beat architecture that’s chock-full of percussive details as well as harmonies and a violin lead that you won’t get out of your head anytime soon.

Then “Tinda Yoga” takes on a similar feelgood note, but elaborates things a bit deeper, adding organ harmonies into the mix, grounding the arrangement on a rich and groovy bass foundation, prepping this cut to score the magic sunset moments of the upcoming summer.

On B1, Black Loops is shaping a rather floor-opt build-up out of “Barong”, straightening things out with a bouncing beat structure, yet keeping the dreamy overall atmosphere.

And finally, Till von Sein is adding his revision of the very same track to this batch, going for a softer kick, engaging claps, even a cowbell here and there, turning the vocal chants of the original into one of the lead elements and levelling the violin solo with a handy synth variation.
