Growing up in New York City, in particular being a teen in the early 90s it was clear each borough had their own look. Living in lower Manhattan you were required to wear specific brands if you were gonna navigate the social scene at your high school or even on your own block. Footwear in particular played a special role and those trends changed with the seasons; in the winter and fall you were rockin primarily Timberland throughout those seasons, come spring time the warming weather also brought with it the start of sneaker season; of course everyone had their Jordan's, New Balance and Reebok's in every imaginable colorway, but the Nike Air Force 1 was THE sneaker for summertime in NYC, and that was a fact in every borough. Til this day when I see a crisp white pair of AF1's, a warm feeling comes over me, for a moment memories of late nights playing basketball with friends under the streetlights, hanging out in front of the bodega sipping on quarter waters and telling mama jokes, the Puerto Rican family next door opening the fire hydrant so the neighborhood kids can cool off and have some summer fun in that hot New York City sun, a simpler time indeed. This brings me to 'Lo's Groove' by Dion's House Kitchen... Those same summer feels come rushing back when I listen to the Rub The Floor Mix of Lo's Groove. It may not hit you that way, but for me this song screams summer and we're excited to welcome Dion's House Kitchen to the Good For You Records family.
