Sampling is the bedrock of house music. The first sampler makers designed them as a tool to chop up original recordings so they could be re-assembled as something new - just like the way a collage works. Soon enough, though, DJs found that they could easily steal loops from classic songs and turn them into house bangers. From that point on, the original focus of sampling seemed to get lost. Over the years, we have seen a few artists (Daft Punk, Grum, Todd Edwards, Mylo) create inspired works that legally use samples to create new songs. But they are in the minority. Now we can add Jayden Voss to the list. His work uses samples but does so so that you would be hard-pressed to spot the source. It's incredible for a 19-year old whose top ten has but one song in it! "All The Time" feels like a glitterball classic but with the drive and punch that dancefloors crave in 2022.
