Debut release from newcomer label “Canopy”, compiled and conceptualised by label head Sumosui.
The title track is taken from an LP by Nigerian reggae artist Ehi Duncan (RIP), originally released in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, in 1987.
On “Africa (My No. 1)” Ehi Duncan explores an up-tempo reggae disco direction, mixing proto-electronic beat sequencing with a stripped back and warm, Balearic tinged, Edo-funk vibe.
Captain Planet propels the track into the 21st century, teaming up with the horn section & keys from the Ibibio Sound Machine to inject extra flavour and spice to the mix.
For his second mix, Captain Planet lowers the tempo, easing into a mid-tempo afro disco session. This time he swaps out the horns and keys, instead embellishing the arrangement with the tones of the marimba.
The tracks transition between organic reggae funk, afro disco & fat electronic beats.
