MoBlack Records revisits Francesco Chiocci and Black Soda’s summertime anthem “Towards the Sun” with a trio of solar-powered remixes by Afro house mogul and Yoruba label mastermind, Osunlade. A spirited vocalist and gifted instrumentalist by craft, the St. Louis born and raised producer lends his soulful, rhythmic touch to MBR397, dousing his rendition in a cradle of sense-invigorating percussion and dainty notes that pique and elevate the spirits.
The Yoruba Soul Mix draws vitality from Black Soda’s unfaltering vocals, which when gripped and swelled by Osunlade’s savvy tempering and harmonics, suavely sail through textured drums, an alluring bassline and winsome rhythm. For track two, Osunlade undertakes the simple yet consequential task of omitting the vocals and leaving all else intact, resulting in a version that doesn’t take away from the Yoruba Soul Mix but rather amplifies its musicality. Devoid of Black Soda’s lyrics, the Instrumental Mix packs a different punch, but though she cannot be heard, the vocalist can be felt. Osunlade takes the Instrumental Mix even further, stripping the melody and calling on the body to do all the talking. MBR407 wraps up with a body-binding barebones Beats Remix, raising temperatures to stretch the summer a little longer, or maybe forever.
