Meeting Molly

Meeting Molly has been one of the most prolific (and celebrated) artists of 2020 in our ranks, launching two original EPs ("Middle Earth" and "You're So Close), as well as a remix of Allay and Narrow Skies' "Morning Daze." Completing the trifecta of new original releases in the first half of this year, the Russian sensation delivers "In The Circle Of Life," an extraordinarily moving, three-track, deep-progressive EP.

The title cut of Meeting Molly's new EP begins with the distant ambient effects of a public gathering, though, it becomes quickly apparent that they could just as easily symbolize the evocation of a past memory. Delicate piano keys and somber vocal effects imbue the soundscape with melancholic and wistful hues, further reinforced by an achingly beautiful, pitched-down opening verse. As the song progresses, reversed strings and additional piano themes only bolster the emotional resonance of the composition. With a light rhythm still continuing onward in the background, the titular vocal theme emerges, eliciting an introspective and nostalgic journey from the listener. In the song's concluding minutes, we are reminded of the obstacles we have courageously surmounted to arrive in the current moment.

Featuring a symphony of crystalline, bell-tinged synths and sensual vocal effects, Meeting Molly's "Si'tenya" possesses a certain restorative power in its transcendent beauty. Extended sub-bass sounds and a finger-snapping groove offer a formidable low-end foundation to the arrangement. In the main breakdown, a chorus of echoing bell sounds and stirring violins coalesce to craft a euphonious atmosphere. In the drop to follow, the vocal effects coax the listener to continue to drift into an especially enchanting dream state.

Closing out the EP, "Gerda" is a stirring vocal number that spiritually resembles the release title cut, "In The Circle Of Life." A signature Meeting Molly piano chord sequence is later joined by an equally affecting Spanish guitar motif, while haunting pads and, of course, the achingly beautiful lead vocals fill out the soundscape. A deeply moving refrain spills into the drop sequence to follow, which also features a hypnotic violin theme and an especially gorgeous fluttering synth melody.
